Holy Year of Hope

The Church will celebrate in 2025 the Jubilee, the holy year that the Pope periodically convokes since 1300 and which marks an important stage for the Catholic Church. It will be a great media event for all Italian cities. The first Jubilee of Catholic history was proclaimed in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII.

The Jubilee has its origins in the Jewish tradition. Every 50 years, the Jews decreed a year of field rest in order to make the land more fertile for the next season. At the same time, slaves were freed and confiscated lands returned so that inequalities could be bridged. The name of the Jubilee itself has a Hebrew etymology: the Hebrew word "jobel" (yobel) in fact indicates the goat, whose horn was played to indicate the beginning of the Jubilee.
